George Edwin Kiggins October 7, 1920 April 29, 2008 George Edwin Kiggins, 87, of Niles passed away at Riverridge Manor on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 with his family by his side. George was born on October 7, 1920 to the late George and Cora Bell (Thacher) Kiggins in Dowagiac, Michigan. He was one of 5 children in the Kiggins household. After high school George enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Pacific, serving in the Gilbert Islands and the Battle for Iwo Jima. On August 23, 1946 George wed the love of his life, Helen Langel. After his tour of duty was over George became a city bus driver for the City of South Bend for nearly 20 years. He then worked for National Standard, where he retired after 25 years of dedicated service. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sister Winifred Juhasz and Brother William Kiggins. George is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Helen, Son Ronald "Ron" (Linda "Lin") Kiggins of Niles, Grandson Christopher Kiggins of St. Louis, Missouri and Brothers Joseph ("Kitty") Kiggins of Niles and Robert (Sallie) Kiggins of Tuscon, Arizona. In keeping with George's wishes he has been cremated. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. The family would like to make a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Memorial Hospital and Riverridge Manor along with long time neighbor Kathleen "Katie" Burton of Niles.
