When we got married we bought the house next door to George and Helen. That was 51 years ago. George helped us many times fixing things around the house, putting a jungle gym set together, fixing a kids bike or lawn mower. They say it takes a neighborhood to raise the children. George was a second father, then grandfather to all of the children in his neighborhood. Each one was special to him. Our grandchildren all knew and loved George. They will miss him terribly as we all will. Over the years he shared his garden radishes, tomatoes and we enjoyed many fish dinners, when he caught more than he needed or wanted to clean. And the war stories.....to know someone who was really in the war and knew things first hand--what an honor to have him take the time to tell the children about it.
Now in our senior years, what a pleasure to have had a good friend to sit on the deck and chat with for hours.
We will miss and remember him always.

I lived acrossed the street from George when I was a kid, My Dad left when I was very young Mr. Kiggins became like a father figure to me. I remember him showing me how to start the lawn mower and what to look for when it didn't start. (every time I start a mower today I think of him & what he taught me "Check the oil, Check the gas and pull the rope hard").
I haven't seem George in quite a while but I too can remember his deep voice. Take care Ronnie and Mrs. Kiggins. My families Thoughts and Prayers are with you.

Gearge was my neighbor where I grew up.
I even remember him when I was very little. He was kind of scary with that deep voice. But I saw he and my dad liked each other and that ended that feeling.
As I grew up, George waved at us kids as we play in the back yard. My dad and he talked at the back fence almost every week. Funny how something so ordinary at the time has such significance now.
Although not close to George in the first part of my life. He may have started out my neighbor, but grew into my friend. I would come over occasionally and help him find tools he had lost or hold something while he fixed a lawnmower.
When I started a garden here at my home.
I grew radishes for George. I told George about a month ago I was growing him some radishes. I know he was looking forward to them. Then suddenly I learned of his passing. Funny on the day of his passing.....his radishes came up in the garden....
I will always remember my friend and neighbor George. He was a "fixture" in the neighborhood. Now I know...the old neighborhood seems emptier without him.
As my father would say.... George is one heck of a guy.... And that description fits him so well.
Bye for now George....I will miss you.
Mike
