Helen Anderson-Cole, 87, of Battle Creek, Michigan went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, at 2:09 a.m. on May 25, 2009 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence, following an extended illness. Helen was born on February 15, 1922 in Senath, Missouri to the late William Lee and Grace Madeline (Hubbard) Keen. Helen attended McKinley High School in St. Louis, Missouri to the twelfth grade. In 1991 she received her GED from the State of Arkansas and was recognized by then Governor Bill Clinton for her accomplishment at the age of 69. On November 18, 1939 she married the late Rev. Augustus "Gus" Anderson who preceded her in death on January 29, 1971. In 1972 Helen married Rev. J.C. Cole who passed away in 1982. A lifetime of ministry began in 1939 when she held her first revival in Corinth, Mississippi, where 173 were baptized and 79 received the Holy Ghost. A ministry that surpassed her imagination, licensed with the United Pentecostal Church International since 1945, she also assisted in pastoring and founding churches in Jackson, Michigan; Adrian, Michigan; Albion, Michigan; Herrin, Illinois; Louisville, Kentucky; Parkersburg, West Virginia and Battle Creek, Michigan. She was President of the Kentucky UPCI Ladies Auxiliary from 1958-1959 and was the West Virginia UPCI Ladies Secretary for over ten years. Helen traveled the world preaching in over 41 countries. She was also known for her anointed singing, recording fifteen albums and five tapes. Helen also authored two books. She is currently a member of The Potter's House Church, Battle Creek. Helen leaves behind two daughters; Karen S. (Rev. H. Ray) Perry of Battle Creek, Michigan and Madelyn R. (Rev. Roger) Shields of Russellville, Arkansas, a son Rev. Michael (Kristene) Anderson of Houston, Texas, a brother James (Jane Ann) Keen of Hillman, Michigan, eight grandchildren; Suzanne (Rev. Steven) Priddy of Louisville, Kentucky, Rev. Jonathan (Sharon) Perry of Toledo, Ohio, Julie (Rev. Mark) Hopper of Battle Creek, Rev. Mickey (Patricia) Shields of Eagle, Idaho, Amy (Doug) Wade of Dardanelle, Arkansas, Rev. Keen Shields of Russellville, Arkansas, Rev. Josh Shields of Green Forest, Arkansas, Rev. Jon (Crystal) McDaniel of Houston, Texas, eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Helen is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and the Anderson and Cole families.
