Mary Lee Palmer, 80, formerly of Niles, Michigan went to be with the Lord while at the home of her daughter Saturday, June 13, 2009 in Granada Hills, California. Mary was born on December 11, 1928 in Birdsong, Arkansas to the late Bobby and Mattie (Rixter) Neely. On August 15, 1944 Mary married Hubert L.C. Palmer at a ceremony in Cassopolis, Michigan who preceded her in death in 1994. A homemaker most of her life, raising seven children, Mary also worked for many years in food service at St. Mary's College in South Bend. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Niles, Michigan along with being a member she served as choir president for many years, and on the mother's board gill. Mary is survived by four sons; Richard (Norma) Palmer of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Kenneth Palmer of Granada Hills, California, Duane (Pamela) Palmer of Niles, Michigan, Jerome (Terri) Palmer of Corona, California, three daughters; Beverly (George) Covington of Granada Hills, California, Evelyn Honor of South Bend, Indiana, Mattie (George) Covington of West Hills, California, two brothers James Neely of Chicago, Illinois and John Murphy of Niles, Michigan, a sister Lucille Webster of South Bend, Indiana, twenty grandchildren and a hosts of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and two Godchildren Karen West, and Kathleen Bray. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 601 Ferry Street, in Niles. Pastor Dennis Giden of Bethlehem Baptist Church and Prophet Jeff Diggins will be officiating. A private interment will be held by the family at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
