To many people Dave was known as Father, son and Captian Dave to me he was my bubbie. When I think of times we shared as children there are wonderful memories of the time we shared. The dollhouses he made for me,the H.O. track he always beat me at,the times as a teenager that he saved me from the wrath of mom [lol].He was the best man at my wedding.I remember the day we came home from our honeymoon we were at his house and he asked me Why are you smiling so big?He knew I was happy and he was happy for me.Early on Dave said he was going to be a captian some day and have his own charter. Not many people have the chance to fulfill their dreams but Dave went after what he wanted.I admire my brother for not giving up.Even thought we did not see each other alot I always knew if I needed him he would be there.I will miss that feeling.I'll miss the way he had to make things better. The way he would hug me and call me sis.I had the fortune to be able to stay with him in his last days time I will treasure till I see him again.I love my brother very much and I will surely miss him.Rest in Peace my beloved brother.I love you.

Dave took Tim out several times on the boat but once I was fortunate enough to be able to go with them. We went up to Lundington and I felt happy to be "one of the boys"! Getting up while still dark to get to the best fishing spot early, I was all new to Salmon fishing but Dave was eager to show the "rookie" the ropes. After a long day of moving from sight to sight on a rather rough lake, each of us caught our own King Salmon. I was thrilled when I finally got a bite on my line and fought with all my might against my prey, getting a bruise on my stomach from finally reeling it in!! When all was said and done and we settled in to the fish station to weigh our fish mine came in as the biggest at 23 pounds, beating out all the guys on the boat. Smiles and pats on the back were all given, yet I failed to get what I wanted to get the most - an invitation back! Hmmm... I wonder why? It seems you never out-fish the Captain or all the men on a boat (especially when it's your first time!)

Debbie and the rest of the Johnson family I am so sorry for your loss of your husband and dad at such an early age. Debbie I grieve with you as you have had to deal with so much in such a short span of time. Jamie I know you were helping in every way you could and I know that you are a great comfort to your mom. I didn't know Dave other than a few hi's at book clubs as he walked through, but I do know he left a wonderful woman and family behind to grieve over their loss and though unhappy now I hope you will also remember to smile when you think of him, that you can laugh and share stories and keep him alive in your hearts and minds. You are in my thoughts and prayers and please do no hesitate to call me for anything. I love you Deb and I am here for you.

Hey Debbie, I just heard today. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's been awhile since I've seen you guys. Stuff happens & you loose contact with people. It's hard to believe Jamie is 29 & Jake is 23. They were just kids last time I saw them. Dave was a great guy. Had a lot of fun with him back then. I remember going out on Lake Michigan with him in this dinky litle blue(I think it was blue)fishing boat he had and trolling for the big ones. Lucky we didn't capsize & drown in that little thing. Barely enough room for the two of us. It was nice when he got something larger. Good to hear he still had a fishing rod attached to his hand. Be sure you give him a rod to take with him. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. May the Lord watch over you and the kids and keep you all safe. Steve

Our Uncle Dave is one person whom we shall never forget. I was lucky enough to go out on Lake Michigan with him, if only to catch a beautiful sunrise, and a lot of laughs. He always caught the fish! Your passion and devotion is nothing but honorable, especially to your family. You always had a knack for making all your grand-neices giggle. May the love and strength you provided endure through these winds of change and live in the hearts of your family. You are loved and missed. Peace Uncle Dave♥

Debbie you already know how I feel about you. My heart is breaking along with yours. It surely seems impossible now, but time truly does heal, and you are surrounded by people who love you and will be here for you every step of the way.
I was always a little in awe of Dave. Every time I was at your house he was busy working on something. He was pretty quiet, but his presence was comforting. It will seem strange not to see him-but I know we will still feel him there.
To the rest of your family, my heart-felt condolences. My family can surely relate. Know that you are loved and Dave will always be with you, in your heart and in your memories.

Deb, I know I have never met you but I do know that Dave loved you a lot. He gave me the strength to become a Charter Boat captain and told me I had what it takes to do well. My respect for all that he was has never diminished. He called me his friend and this was a great honor to me. He was so proud of his son Jake- You learn much about a man when you get to fish with him and the lessons I have learned from Dave will be with me the rest of my life. I will never fish alone on the "big pond" because I know Dave will be saying to me- Do it this way -try it this way- don't follow the crowd- You can do it - here let me show you- let me help- and I will let him- I will truly miss him- I loved him and I hope that all the graces of God will comfort you in this tough time.
Sincerely in Him
Captain Dave Torma- his classmate at Charter school and friend
