Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William “Roger” Horton, 70, of Niles, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, with his loving family by his side.

Roger was born on January 7, 1953, to the late William J. and Dorothy C. (Patton) Horton in Berrien Springs, Michigan. He spent his formative years in Lexington, Tennessee. Throughout his lifetime he lived in Tennessee, Texas, Florida, and Michigan.

On April 27, 1977, he married the love of his life, Faith Mead, at a ceremony in Dowagiac. Together they made a beautiful family of eleven children, and a host of grandchildren.

Roger was a hard worker; he drove semi-trucks coast to coast for many years. Roger owned and operated several businesses which included; Horton’s Live Bait shop in Buchanan, Five Star Roofing in Texas and Tennessee, Horton’s Home Improvement and Horton’s Roofing in Michigan, and after retirement he sold live bait out of his garage. In his later years, after retirement, he just couldn’t sit still, so he went to work moving and hauling trailers across the country.

On his trips cross country, he enjoyed stopping in Vegas, often taking his family with him. He built several picnic tables in his free time. As often as possible, he would spend time outside, either fishing, hunting for squirrels and racoons, or just being at the cabin.

His most treasured moments were spent with his family, he was a great husband, father, and grandfather. There is nothing that would compare to the love he had for each one of them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Carol Blair, and Jackie Horton; granddaughter, Aspyn VanWinkle; sons-in-law, Jeff Kuhn, and Chris Lott; brothers-in-law, Lyle, and Earl, nephew-in-law, Kevin Mead.

Roger is survived by his wife, Faith Horton of Niles; children, Christopher (Missy) Horton, Christina Lott, Dorothy (Adam) Horton-O’Brien, Andrea (Shawn) Cole, Dustin (Jessica) Horton, Daniel Horton, Ryan (Heather) Herman Horton, Charity Kuhn, Ashley (James) Wieberg, Hailey Horton, Alyssa Horton, thirty-two grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, siblings, Gail Kimbler, Tony (Gail) Horton, Stanley Horton, Allen (Mary Lou) Horton, and Tonya Dayhuff, brothers-in-law, Don (Jean) Mead, Robert (Peggy) Mead, Bill Mead and Thomas Mead, sons-in-law, Jeremiah Dail, Daryl O’Brien, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
