Obituary of Joseph S. Rose

Joseph Samuel Rose Sr. July 9, 1943 - July 31, 2017 Joseph S. Rose Sr., 74, of Niles, passed away at his home on Monday, July 31, 2017, with his family by his side. Joe was born on July 9, 1943, to the late Harley and Hazel (Thaxton) Rose in South Bend. On August 11, 1962, Joe wed Shirley Masterman at a ceremony in Niles. Joe enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country. Joe worked for Pony Express, Tiara Motor Coach and did body work as a side job. He also loved fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe was also a loyal Bears fan and loved watching Jimmy Johnson. He also enjoyed talking to his friends on the C.B. and always answered to the handle "Honcho". He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Hazel; and siblings, Rachel McCarty, Bertha Horvath, Pat Butts, Donald Rose, John Rose, and Harley Rose. Joe is survived by his wife, Shirley Rose; children, Teresa (Danny) Grimmer, Joseph (Beth) Rose, Jr., and Denise (Robert) Clayton; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren with two more on the way; sister, Delda (Chester) Jones of Niles; and many extended family members and close friends. The family would like to extend a deep heartfelt thank you to Heartland Hospice for their caring, compassion and love for Joe. Joe's family will be hosting a memorial service to honor Joe at the American Legion Post 50, located at 1633 North Bendix Drive, in South Bend on Sunday, August 13, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with military honors being performed at 5:00 p.m. Those wishing to contribute to the family may do so in care of Brown Funeral Home by phone or mail or by visiting https://fundthefuneral.com/joseph-joe-rose-sr
