Obituary of Richard N. Huffman

Richard Huffman, 64, passed away at his home surrounded by his wife and the love of his family after a short, valiant battle with brain cancer. Rick was born September 17, 1949 in Kennett, Missouri, the son of Emery and Jeanette (Durbin) Huffman. After serving in the U.S. Army, Rick worked as a Palisades Nuclear Power Plant security guard until graduation from the police academy. His law enforcement career spanned four different Van Buren County police departments, serving as sergeant for Bangor and Covert and as an officer for Gobles and Lawrence. For the past 17 years, he worked as a security guard for LECO Corporation. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as one brother, James Huffman, two sisters, Betty Jean Luttrel and Mary Ann Silversmith. Rick is survived by his wife, Jane Huffman, six daughters; Jodi Harrington, Kathy Brown, Rebecca Dalecki, DeAngela Doss, Katherine Janulis, and Jeanette VanNorden, 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers; Robert Huffman, Gary Huffman and Paul Huffman, 3 sisters; Margaret, Judy, and Catherine. Rick enjoyed riding his bicycles, writing stories, shooting guns, and spending quality time with his family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3653 Niles Road in St. Joseph. A time of visitation will begin one hour prior. Following the services Rick will be buried with military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard's memory to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
