Obituary of Fred Reed

Fred “Fast Freddie” Reed, 68, of Niles, passed away at his home in Niles, on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

Fred was born on May 6, 1950, to the late Allen and Helen (Jesswin) Reed.  He graduated with the class of 1968 from Buchanan High School. On March 22, 1969, he married the love of his life, Sharon McLean at a ceremony in Niles. In 2015 he retired from R & H Automotive of Niles, which he had co-owned for over thirty years with Kenneth Hall. Fred or “Fast Freddie” as he was known on the racing circuit, has raced at many of the area raceways, including; South Bend Motor Speedway, New Paris Speedway, Plymouth Speedway, Kalamazoo Speedway, and most recently at the M-40 Speedway in Jones, Michigan. Fred enjoyed having a good time, and loved being with family and friends. You always knew he was in the room when you heard his unique laugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and oldest son, Phillip Wayne Reed.

Fred is survived by his wife, Sharon Reed of Niles; daughters, Paula (Kevin) Snyder of Mishawaka; and Samantha (Rick Bush) of Niles; grandchildren, Christopher (Heather Putnam) Snyder, Tiffany Townsend, Chelsy Reed, Emilie and Erika Bush; great-grandchildren, Tilly Snyder, Avery Snyder, Levi Snyder, and Karson Bush; brothers, Larry (Ann) Reed, and Gary (Barb) Reed.

Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the donor’s choice.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 29, 2019, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM also at Brown Funeral Home.
