Obituary of Joseph Jackson Jr.
Joseph Jackson Jr. beloved son of Joseph and F. Helen (Macon) Jackson Sr. passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph, Michigan.
Joseph was born November 6, 1961, the only child of Joseph and F. Helen Jackson Sr.
He graduated from Dowagiac Union High School in the class of 1980. After graduation, Joseph went on to earn his cosmetology degree at Sister Lakes Beauty Academy. After becoming licensed as a barber/beautician he moved to Hawaii where he began serving our military heroes as their barber on the Hickam Army Base. Joseph emulating his father became the owner and operator of his own salon “A Cut Above”. He operated this business for over 10 years before returning home when his maternal grandmother became ill. He wanted to be close to family so he could aid where ever he could. After his return, his father launched a new business “Aloha Beauty Salon”. Joseph was asked to choose a name for the new venture because it was always known that he would become the owner. His father established the business and later his parents officially turned the business over to him as planned. For the past 12 years, he owned and operated the salon in his hometown. He did this until he became ill and could no longer do so.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents Joseph and F. Helen Jackson Sr; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by a very special cousin Kelly Hatcher, who was with him until the very end.
Joseph’s family will hold a private memorial service. He will be laid to rest at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
