Obituary of Bettye Faye Abrahamson

Please share a memory of Bettye to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bettye Faye Abrahamson, 82, of Buchanan took her last breath here and her first breath in Heaven on September 7, 2018, surrounded by her five children. Her fight with cancer is over and she has been reunited with the love of her life, Dan and their firstborn child, Faye Elizabeth. She finished her course and won her race.

She was born in Finley, Tennessee to the late Leslie E. and Mary E. (Neal) Robinson.

Bettye graduated from Mason Hall High School in Tennessee. On October 18, 1958, Bettye married the love of her life, Dan Abrahamson at a ceremony in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, after a courtship in Chicago, Illinois.

Bettye assisted her husband, where he pastored  in Walterboro, South Carolina for 13 ½ years, and More Abundant Life Tabernacle in Berrien Springs, Michigan for 18 ½ years.

She loved to play the accordion and piano and sing. She played the piano at church for many years. She loved picking apples in the fall with the family and watching sunsets on Lake Michigan. She read her Bible every day and prayed for her children and grandchildren every night. Although she blamed her trips to the auction on her husband, after his death she would continue going weekly, with her son-in-law. She loved eating catfish and going fishing. She was very proud of being from Tennessee and of being a sharecropper’s daughter. She began picking cotton at the age of 5. Bettye had a God given gift of music. She could play almost any instrument. She taught many people to play the piano. In her latter years she took classes at the Central County Senior Center and became an artist. She loved painting. She wrote an autobiography of her life. She also loved taking people to church. One of her children’s fondest memories is that of falling asleep on the couch to the beautiful sound of her playing the piano.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. Dan Abrahamson, Sr.; a daughter, Faye Elizabeth Abrahamson; her brothers, Acie, L.E., Charlie Paul and Leffel Robinson; sisters, Vera Worrell, Ruby Pike and Anne Littleton.

She is survived by her children, Delonna (Sidney) Stapleton of Berrien Springs, Sharon (Ronald) Ford of Buchanan, Dan Jr. (Stephanie) Abrahamson of Buchanan, Susan (John) Jerkins of Williston, South Carolina, Christy (Michael) Blosser of Barnwell, South Carolina; fourteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
