Grandpa -
I’ve been eager to write this post since the day I learned of your passing back in December. It’s been one year today and there hasn’t been a day that’s gone by where you aren’t thought of. When I close my eyes, I imagine myself sitting in your office chair, rolling around on the plastic carpet protector. I’m looking up and admiring the maps of your greatest adventures and sorting through your filing cabinets. You have a desk lamp that also serves as a pen holder filled with the most sharpened pencils and highlighters. For hours, you would let me draw on your graph paper, using your protractor and cutting out projects with your paper shear. You challenged me with creativity and education. The man who offered me $50 to memorize all 50 states was also the man who offered me $100 if I could name all 50 capitals as well. You always saw potential in me, believed in me and encouraged me to be the best version of me and for that, I am forever grateful. To this day Grandpa, my office holds the chair, the lamp and every pencil and highlighter I’ve ever owned in their own organizational containers, one being your old cigar box. I’ve kept your original graph paper and the same paper shear you gave me because you knew the joy it brought me. I’ve traveled the world and collected my own maps now. I still use filing cabinets and I’m one semester away from my Master’s Degree. Some would say, I grew up to be just like you! Although you aren’t physically present, you continue to live on in the hearts of everyone you’ve crossed paths with. I thank God every day that my path was one of them. I love you Grandpa, until we meet again!

My condolences to the Redzinski family as well as members of his extended family. What a great and touching video of Col Gil throughout his life. He certainly left behind a great legacy. Gil was my Commander when I was in the 95th Maps down in Milwaukee. I was fortunate to be at his retirement in 1987. Gil was a great friend, soldier, always professional and wore the uniform with pride. He was also a great Commander that always had an open door policy if you had an issue that needed attention. I know he will be missed, but he lived a long life and touched the lives of many. Rest in Peace Col. Redzinski, your work on this earth is now done.

Gil,
I'm so very sorry that our contact was lost a year ago. I tried in vain to find you. I truly enjoyed our time together as my Commander, neighbor and good friend. I will dearly miss our times together but will always cherish and remember them. God speed.
