first saw Sleepy while playing against him in a Round RobinTournament , in Benton Harbor. It was the last game of the event, and what I most remember about him was that the crowd would chant "sleepy, sleepy, sleepy" after every time at bat, and after every play he made. This really stood out to me because I had never witnessed this by a crowd for a softball player ever before in my life. As a competitor, I didn't like it and my first thought was "Who is Sleepy anyway"? It wasn't until we played together on a team called Fire in a tournament where I actually got to know him better. Then later we became teammates with a team called "The World". While playing for the World this is where I really found out who Sleepy was. Then I found myself chanting , "sleepy, sleepy, sleepy, to myself and becoming one of his biggest fans.
For me personally he was the guy who was there for me when I was going through some personal issues, and he never treated me any different like many others did. He gave me support and helped me through it all. His friendship never wavered. I will always love him for that. He was always upbeat and with a smile on his face, always the jokester. He was my friend.
Rheba, I am so sorry I could net be there with you and the rest of the family, for support. Due to circumstances beyond my control I could not be there to support you today. I am truly sorry, but you know that I loved him and that he will sorely be missed. I will be there in spirit today and if you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to call me. (678-467-0830)
REST IN PEACE SLEEPY! UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN IN THAT TOURNAMENT IN THE SKY.
