Obituary of Michael P. Shaneyfelt

Michael Paul Shaneyfelt, 60, of Chicago, Illinois and previously of Niles, Michigan passed away Friday, February 15, 2013. Michael was born on May 31, 1952 to the late Paul and Mary (Bentkowski) Shaneyfelt in Niles, Michigan. After graduating from Niles High School in 1970 Michael went on to earn his bachelor's degree at Grand Valley State University. He began to work for WNIT-Elkhart where he was a part time producer and director and then went on to be an editor for the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and the American Dental Assistants Association Magazine. When a position opened for Michael to follow his passion he began to work for Robert Morris as an instructor and the Illinois Institute of Art Chicago as a part time instructor. In 1997 he became a full time Professor of Visual Communications at the Art Institute of Chicago where he was still employed at the time of his death. Michael was a self-taught computer genius - he learned how to work a computer inside and out and when he was completely proficient he began to teach it at the Art Institute where he made countless friends who shared his love for trivia and theater. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, five uncles, five aunts and survived by his loving sister Marcia Shaneyfelt-Niles and her husband Ken Niles of Lawton, Aunt Stella Flowers of South Bend, Indiana, several cousins and countless friends. A time of visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with a mass of Christian burial following at St. Mary Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made in Michael's name to the Illinois Art Institute of Chicago's Visual Communications program or to one's local hospice organization.
