Ten years today you said 'Good-Bye' - - - still miss you, still cry. Til we meet again.
Re-visited your condolence page & found this post from me seven years ago:
2.15.13 = No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why.
2.15.15 = Michael it's been two years - Your presence we miss; Your memories we treasure; Loving you always; Forgetting you never!!
Although the day is extremely cold, the sun shines brightly - is that your message to us still walking the earth that you are well and continue watch over us and the suns rays are your hugs???
Love, Ken, Marcia & Mortie
Well, weather is similar - lots of snow and cold weather today (and this week) - however - the sun is shining brightly once again on your anniversary - you remind me to stay sunny in thought word and deed as you are never more than a thought away. Thanks for the reminder, you bring a smile to my face.

In 1994 Mike and I took a trip that combined Sondheim and Shakespeare, two of his favorite theatrical lights. We started in New York where we saw Sondheim's "Passion," still in previews. We then went on to the U.K. Our many destinations included Stratford-Upon-Avon where we saw one or two plays (Mike would surely remember exactly what we saw and some salient moments from each production.). Mike was a great travel companion: curious, accommodating and full of energy. On this particular trip he was also determined to eat as much Indian food as possible. I negotiated a deal before we left: Indian food every other night. I was under the weather one night in York, so Mike eagerly took the chance to check out another source of biryani.
Mike and I worked together at WNIT-TV in South Bend/Elkhart and he became Promotion Manager when I left for a new job. He was a good friend and a good colleague. I will miss him.
By the way, Mike always insisted I call him a Michiganian, though I really knew he was a Michigander.

Dear Marcia and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. We are two of Mike's "countless friends" as you so rightly noted in his obituary.
The news of Mike's passing is heartbreaking. Such a lovely, smart, funny and passionate man. We met Mike sometime in the 1980s through our friend, Michael Bridgeman. We all shared a love of theater and a particular fondness for Stephen Sondheim musicals. Over the years we enjoyed many wonderful evenings with Mike in Chicago and at Ravinia. Now we realize how precious these times were. Now it feels as though there were too few of them.
Perhaps our most memorable time was a trip we took to New York with Mike, Michael and another mutual friend, David Barrett. We've posted some photos of us gathered outside Carnegie Hall on a June evening in 1992. We're just about to go inside to attend a "Sondheim Celebration" featuring a host of Broadway notables. It was a star-filled night we will always remember.
It was our honor and great pleasure to know Mike. We're so deeply saddened by his passing. Mike would surely enjoy being remembered with a Sondheim lyric:
"It was marvelous to know you
And it isn't really through.
Crazy business this, this life we live in-
Can't complain about the time we're given-
With so little to be sure of in this world,
We had a moment!
A marvelous moment!"

I found out through a friend about Michaels passing. My heart felt so heavy with saddness. I met Michael when I was just starting out in comedy and he was my instructor for an Improv class. We became friends and spent many Friday nights at Improv the Night Away. He then became our favorite detective in all our Murder Mysteries (with Lynne Folsom & Kim Hsieh) I always would say he was the only man strong enough and nice enough to handle us three ladies at once! We all wanted to be center of attention in the performance and somehow Michael would say something very serious and deadpan and make everyone laugh. He was such a joy to be with and I am so very sorry and sad for your loss.

While at GVSU, Mike and I were roomates in the dorms. It is not surprising to note that he kept that sense of humor throughout his life. There are so many examples of that wit. One dinner time at the Commons they were serving roast beef. As they kept carving, the more bloody it became. As we neared the head of the line, Mike, in a slightly elevavated but dignified tone said "I've seen animals WOUNDED worse than that get up and walk away." The roast beef was quickly returned to the oven. I lost contact with Mike quite a while back. Based on the posted comments, it is likely a book or two of antedotes could easily be written.
Probably the best tribute to Mike was expressed earlier by Lisa Gruber when she observed that he made a difference. Indeed, a difference for so many people.
My sympathies to Marcia and the rest of the family in this time.

I was a teenager when I met Michael. I loved the arts, ballet, plays... whatever. Michael got tickets for his sister Marcia and I (Marcia was my dads girlfriend then, but they are married now) to go see the Nutcracker ballet, in which he played Uncle Drosselmeyer. It became and still is my favorite ballet. I loved being able to meet Michael, with his sweet smile and kind giving ways. He brought us on stage after the ballet to meet the dancers. Michael and I forever had a kinship after that in our love for the arts, and I will always appreciate his influence in my life. Its so sad to lose someone so special so young, but his battle on earth is over and I'm excited for him to be able to experience new adventures!
