Obituary of Edith Thomas

Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edith Emily Thomas, 89, died peacefully Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 at her home in Coloma. Edith was born on Nov. 23, 1925 to Hattie and Arly Jarvis in, Hancock County TN. She and her six siblings worked on the farm along side their parents. In 1956 Edith married Henry P. Thomas and moved to Michigan living in Benton Harbor for more than 45 years. In 1958 they had a son also named Henry P. Thomas. Though Edith made Michigan her home, her heart was always in Tennessee. After her husband's death in 1981 she would spend summers in Tennessee with family. Each one of her siblings would welcome her stay where she would go from home to home. Together they would break beans, do canning and participate in her brother Clay's molasses stir off. Edith loved being with family down south and enjoyed her extended family. Edith was very proud of her grandchildren Jaime, Aaron and Jennabeth Thomas. She loved to cook for them, go to softball and soccer games and band concerts when she could. "Grandma Edith" was special and will always be remembered for her great breakfast dinners, her snow cream and apple cake. Grandma Edith was a kind and gentle soul that will be greatly missed. Edith is survived by her son Henry "Pat" Thomas and his wife Karin. Grandchildren Jaime, Aaron and Jennabeth Thomas. Sisters Cora Seal, Ruth Thomas and Easter Mincey. Sister in law Louann Jarvis and brother in law Jacob Haynes and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Clay Jarvis and sisters Mildred Haynes and Stella Jarvis. Niece Diane Dunn and nephew Allen Jarvis. The family will be having a private family gathering. A memorial in Tennessee will be held at a later date. The family is asking that those wishing to give a memorial or send flowers would instead give a donation in Edith's name to the church of their choice.
