Mom,
Never has a star shined so brightly nor a life been so rightly lived. You were a rock, a pillar of strength, in all of our lives. Everyone who met you is richer for the experience. You epitomized what a woman should be and even if I were not your son I'd have been proud to have made your acquaintance. There will always be a hole in my heart with you slipping away but thanks for using an incendiary round to pierce me by not suffering and having the courage and strength to slide into the heavens so gracefully. The bullet cauterized the wound in my heart during its passage and, even though the hole will remain indelibly, my heart is not bleeding. I, too, am at peace. But, even so, I will miss you forever.
