Obituary of Christine A. Hitt

Christine A. (Mark) Hitt, 72, of Niles, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the home of her son, Matthew. She was born on March 24, 1944 in Niles to the late Horace L. and Violet C. (Corwin) Mark. Christine was a lifelong Niles resident, graduation Niles High School Class of 1962. While working at the Dowagiac Daily News Christine met her husband of the next 50 years, Eugene "Bob" Hitt, and the two were wed on February 12, 1966 at Pokagon United Methodist Church. Christine was a gifted ceramics artist and taught classes at her family owned ceramics studio for many years. She also had an eye for antiquing and enjoyed collecting and selling antiques, as well as working for Michiana Antique Mall for 25 years. But her greatest joy in life was spoiling her grandsons as well as her grand weiner-dog, Schatzi. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Eugene, who passed on August 10, 2016. Christine is survived by her son, Matthew (Tara) Hitt of Niles, three grandsons; Andre, Gavin and Sebastian Hitt, two sisters, Louise Elliott of New Hampshire and Lucy (John) Vandenheede of Niles and a brother, Roy (Tilly) Mark of Buchanan. In keeping with Christine's wishes, cremation has taken place and her family will gather privately to remember her.
