She was the best neighbor anyone could ask for. She always watched over outlets place, would wait for me when I come in or schedule breaks with me to talk about crime stories or swap books. I learned a lot about her life and many hard days she listened and kept me going. The neighborhood community, our practice and our clients will miss her very much as she always greeted us with love and happiness. I was as well, lucky to have known her.

Shirley was a dear friend and neighbor. We lived in the same building here in Niles for many years and because close and wonderful friends. I used to take Shirley to run errands all the time. We would go to the grocery store, shopping, doctor's offices, etc. Shirley and I depended on one another for all the everyday, little things in life. What impressed me most about Shirley was the fact that no matter where we went she always ran into someone she knew. She always had a kind word and smile for everyone. She knew a lot of people, and many people loved this "crazy, little lady" who always made you smile. I also admired her courage. Shirley was an avid reader for years. I would take her to the library where she would get 10-12 books and devour every one of them. As her eyesight deteriorated leaving her nearly blind, she was unable to read books anymore. But, that didn't stop her! She simply switched to audio books! As she gradually lost her eyesight, I never once heard her complain about it. She always had a positive, optimistic attitude toward life. Although she didn't have much in terms of wealth and material possessions, she was rich in many, many ways. She had a loving family and talked endlessly about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also had friends everywhere she went. She had a smile and love for life that was infectious. She always had hope and a positive attitude. The last time I saw Shirley she told me the doctor told her she had only 3-6 months left to live. I said to her, "Shirley you will be here as you always have been right up until the good Lord calls you home!" She smiled and replied, "that's exactly right!" I guess heaven needed a social director, because she will absolutely know every person up there! Shirley always called me her "buddy." What a privilege to have known her! I am a better person because of it. Rest in peace my friend until I see you again. Your Buddy, Steve Bowe

I have so many great memories with my grandmother. She was a great listener. I knew that I could go to her with any problems I had and she would offer her advice. We will all miss her dearly, let's celebrate her wonderful life. Let's also share our loving memories and make sure that her spirit lives on in all of us.
