Obituary of Jack Thatcher

Jack Bernard Thatcher March 28, 1944 July 16, 2007 Jack B. Thatcher, 63, of Topinabee Road in Niles, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Monday, July 16, 2007 at his home with his family by his side. Jack was born on March 28, 1944 to George and Eva (Griffith) Thatcher in Gary, IN, who survive him. He was one of 3 children. After Jack graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1967 he enrolled at Ferris State University where he worked diligently toward his bachelor's degree in pharmacology. On June 28, 1968 Jack wed the love of his life, Dorothy "Butch" Brechenser in Big Rapids, MI. He then enlisted in the National Guard where he served his country from 1968 - 1974. In 1970 he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and also served as a 1st and executive officer of the 1438th Transportation Company of Elkhart, IN. After Jack finished his tour of duty he and Butch bought a local pharmacy and it became Thatcher's Pharmacy. He proudly ran the pharmacy as his own and as though the people were part of his own family. After 28 dedicated years of service to the community Jack retired. When he wasn't working around the house or playing with Sir Angus McMillan his beloved dog he was out fly fishing, golfing, reading or watching the Cubs, Bears or Notre Dame. Jack is survived by his wife of 39 years, Butch, Daughter Melissa Thatcher of South Bend, IN, Son Andrew "Andy" (Shannon) Thatcher of San Antonio, Texas, Grandson Jack A. Thatcher, Parents George and Eva (Griffith) Thatcher, Brothers Robert Thatcher and Richard (Susan) Thatcher all of Ashville, NC. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2007 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Niles. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, July 20, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10 am. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Niles.
