Obituary of Thomas Hewitt

Thomas Leroy Hewitt, 64, of Niles, passed away at Lakeland Hospital of St. Joseph on October 25, 2007. On August 10, 1943 Thomas was born to the late Russell and Stella "Elizabeth" (Coston) Hewitt in Alma, Michigan who preceded him. Thomas served his country proudly in the United States Army and graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor's degree. At a ceremony in Saginaw, Michigan, Tom married the love of his life Judy Musolf on June 13, 1970. After 24 years of teaching mathematics in the Dowagiac School System, Tom continued to stay busy. He was an avid follower of sports who was especially partial to the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions regardless of their records. Tom was also very involved with local junior high and high school sports, where he spent over 30 years officiating for volleyball, basketball, softball, and baseball. He was a member of the M.H.S.A.A., and also the S.W.M.A.A. Upon retirement Tom was employed as an H& R Block Senior Tax Preparer and was also president of The Cass County Association for Retired School Teachers. Neither his hobbies nor his work stopped there. In his spare time he enjoyed restoring antique trunks and furniture. Through the years Tom has kept not only his bride laughing with his humor but also his children and now his grandchildren. Although he used his sense of humor and wit to get him through most days, his family will remember that he was always patient, rock-solid, and truly someone who always cared about others. Tom will be greatly missed by his wife Judy, his two daughters; Lisa (Phillip) Siemiantkowski of Fenton, Erin (Matthew) Stone of Shelby Township, Michigan and his grandchildren, Benjamin and Sarah Siemiantkowski. Also surviving Tom are his two brothers George (Esther) Hewitt of Big Rapids, Michigan and Charles (Isabel) Hewitt of Elyria, Ohio.
