My family lived next door to the Hewitts all the time I was growing up in Midland Michigan on East Ashman Street. Wonderful family! I last saw all of them at Russ and Elizabeth’s anniversary party back in the 80s. Tom had told me then he lived in Niles and I was very sad to see his obituary this many years later . He was three years older than me but he and his brothers were always so good to me even though they teased me a lot ! My deepest condolences and prayers in the loss of Tom. Fond childhood memories❤️

Mr. Hewitt was one of my favorite teachers in high school - I had him for 2 years between 1990-1994. He always took the time to help his students and did it in a way that didn't make you feel like you were any less than anyone else. My greatest sympathies to the family, may the Lord hold you up during this time and always.

I was one of the officials at the volleyball match at Benton Harbor. My deepest and sincere condolences. Tom and I exchanged jokes between matches, and had a good laugh. His character among officials will truly be missed.

I had the priviledge of knowing Tom as both a teacher and official. After graduating from Dowagiac Tom used to pick me up and we'd drive halfway across the state to umpire together mostly laughing along the way because Tom was always telling jokes. Recently, he even umpired our daughter's games. Our sympathies are with you and we hope everyone has a good laugh when they think of Tom.

As I read the paper today, it was a shock to see that Mr. Hewitt passed away. I had him for a teacher at Dowagiac Union High School 1990-1994. I can only say only good things about him.. He always took his time when I had a question about problem that I didn't understand. Always patient never in a hurry. He shared the same passion for Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions, like my family did. I will keep your family in my prayers for this is the time for their hearts to heal too...God Bless Mr. Hewitt..

You know you have been in my thoughts 24 hours a day since I heard. I wish I could take your heart ache and pain since I already have my own but I can't. Just know that I am here for you and if there is anytime you need me, please call. Sometimes you will need to know that the feelings and thoughts you are having are normal and I am here if you have any questions. Believe me, it helps to be able to talk to someone that has been through this. As I said, I can't take your pain but I'm here for you.
