Our paths crossed very briefly in time, but he made an impression. I was a newly-graduated respiratory therapist at Daniel Freeman Hospital (Inglewood, CA) in 1984. Rick was one of the shift supervisors there at the time and he was very kind and understanding toward me. Some of my co-workers were not very nice toward me as, I guess, I was the rookie. But, Rick was calm, reassuring and treated me with respect. He stood out to me as an example of kindness and I will always remember him for that.

Richie was my neighbor on Cass St. in Niles. We attended Bloomington Indiana University at the same time. He was working as an orderly then. He was such a well loved person. Everyone that knew him respected him. Richie was such a considerate person and I looked up to him. I will always remember what he taught me in life.

Whenever I would go for my morning walk, I would sometimes see
Richard on his porch and we would talk. Oreo, his little dog would always
bark at me until Richard would talk to it. We would talk about anything and
everything. I will miss our little conversations, however he has gone home
and there will be no more pain or suffering.
God be with you.
Until we meet again,
John, your neighbor and friend
