Obituary of Arthur Peebles

Arthur Kenton Peebles September 21, 1926 March 19, 2008 Arthur "Kenny" Peebles, 81, of Eagle Street in Niles, passed away at his home on March 19, 2008. Arthur was born on September 21, 1926 to the late Arthur S. and Anna C. (Christenson) Peebles in Oak Park, IL. After graduating from high school Arthur proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army during WWII. After his tour of duty in the Philippines Arthur came home and began working for Bendix. He worked in the Fuel System Lab at the Missile factory as a lab technician. On February 9, 1952 Arthur wed the love of his life, Alice Roberts in Angola, IN. Together they had one son, Dale. Arthur was always tinkering with things in his life. He moved from the fuel lab at Bendix to the brake lab. His tinkering continued while he worked at the factory which led to his second career as a motorcycle mechanic. He worked for Niles Cycle on Barron Lake from the day it opened. Arthur later went back to work for Bendix part time until he decided to fully retire in the late 1980's. Other than his love of motorcycles Arthur also spent countless hours riding his motorcycle on every nice day that he could, building quarter scale model airplanes, playing billiards on a local league, writing letters to the local editors and spending time with his family. Arthur was a very prominent member of the Tri-Valley R/C and a lifetime member of the Michiana Sky Raiders and the American Motorcycle Association. Arthur spent countless hours with both of these clubs flying R/C planes. He was also an active member of the Society of Antique Modelers, International Miniature Aircraft Association, Inc., Academy of Model Aeronautics, the National Rifle Association and played on a local billiards league at the Billiard Garden every week. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister. Arthur is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice, Son Dale (Kim) Peebles of Niles, Grandchildren Christopher (Kim) Simpson of Niles and Joshua (Piper) Simpson of Niles and 4 great-grandchildren. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 from 6-8 pm at Brown Funeral Home in Niles where his service will follow on Wednesday, March 26th at 11am. Pastor Emmett Kadwell will be officiating. Arthur will be interred at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Niles.
