Obituary of Virgil Yaw

Virgil Yaw October 19, 1940 August 14, 2008 Virgil Yaw, 67, of North 7th Street in Niles passed away at his home on Thursday, August 14, 2008 with his family by his side. Virg was born on October 19, 1940 in Niles, Michigan. After high school Virg wed the love of his life, Lillian "Sue" Middaugh at a ceremony in Niles on December 5, 1964. He proudly served in the United States Navy. After returning from the service he became a father when he and Sue had 2 children; Mark and Marna. Virg was a volunteer firefighter for the Niles Township Fire Department for over 12 years and also was the President of Volunteers for the Southwest Michigan Community Ambulance Service (SMCAS). He also helped build the building that SMCAS currently occupies in Niles. Sue was diagnosed with Huntington's disease and Virg spent many of his later caring for his wife that he loved. Sue passed away in late 2007. He is preceded in death by his Mother Clara Mae (Richie) Yaw and father and step-mother Virgil (Julia Inamae) Yaw, wife of nearly 43 years Lillian Sue Yaw and daughterTresa Yaw. Virg is survived by his daughter Marna (Paul) Smallmon of Niles, sons Mark Yaw of Berrien Springs, Tim Gowen and Thomas Yaw, 5 grandchildren, sister Barbara Jean Getchinger of Chicago, brother Melvin "Mick" (Kathy) Yaw of North Carolina and great family friend Charles "Chuck" Belin of Niles who cared for Virg in his last year. In keeping with Virg's wishes he has been cremated. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 from 5-8 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Niles. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home &Cremation Services, of Niles.
