Angela Walker, 68, of Niles passed away at home on Friday October 17, 2008 following an illness. Angela Walker was born on July 15, 1940 to the late Epitasio and Mary (Chavez) Parrales in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in inner-city immigrant neighborhoods. She has always been proud of her Mexican heritage and has worked throughout her life to support La Raza. In 1977, Angie joined the Michigan Migrant Legal Assistance Project in Berrien Springs, where she labored tirelessly for 20 years in a variety of supportive roles, including as bilingual legal secretary and paralegal, and assisting with immigration cases. In 2001, Angie was one of two farm worker paralegals in the Midwest to be recognized for "her lifetime devotion to the Legal Rights of farm workers in the Midwest" by the Midwest Migrant Legal Services Programs. In 2003, Angie was recognized by the Michigan Family Independence Agency for "her lifetime of dedication to migrant laborers and their families." And, her inspirational service was also recognized during the Second Annual Michigan Farm Worker Appreciation Month celebration for "selflessly giving her life to the pursuit of Social Justice for Michigan's Farm worker Families." She is survived by a daughter Sydney (Marc) Stull of Niles, MI, three grandchildren, Oryen, Collin, and Anthony, two sisters, Pamela (Donald) Moizo of Chicago, IL, and Connie (Philip) Almaguer of Chicago, IL. Keeping with Angela's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday October 25, 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church.
