Shelly was my sister twice. We both married "Wilder boys," and we both trusted Christ as Saviour. I miss her very much, but I know I will see her again one day in Heaven. I am looking forward to that day.
Diana, Darren, Matt, Gabe, Leslie, Seth and all of our clan, know that I love you all and am praying for you. I am here whenever you need me.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Shelly- You were always like a second mother to me and I really appreciate everything you have done for me. We spent so much time together just talking about anything and everything. You were the only person I could literally talk to for hours at a time and still have a million things to say the next time I saw you. You would always send Leslie and I to the store to get you either chocolate or ice tea! One of my favorite memories is when you, Leslie, Len, Monica and I went out to dinner and on the way home Leslie told a "dirty joke" and we were all cracking up! It's so hard walking into your house knowing you're not there and that you won't be floating around in the pool with me and Les in the Summer. You were an amazing mom, friend, aunt, wife, and sister to a lot of people and we all love you so much. I miss seeing your beautiful face and I'll continue missing you everyday until I see you again...
I love you always, Shelly.

Aunt Shelly, I think about you everyday. It's going to be difficult this summer when I come to swim at the house and not seeing you wading in the pool showing off your tan belly! We all miss you so much. I always think of going places with you and you doing your makeup on the way in the rear-view mirror! Leslie and I would always think we were gonna crash! Or, cleaning the house on a Sunday when Uncle Nate would literally come wake us up banging pots and pans together in the morning, just to tell us to get out of his chair. I miss cleaning the house with you but not getting much done because we'd eventually being dancing to the stereo blaring the Eagles in the living room. I'm so blessed to have you as an aunt, or even a second mom. I love you with all of my heart, I just wish that Hanah could have remembered you as I do. When I first met Brandon, we spent the most time at your house with the family, my most precious memories next to my daughter. I love you, I miss you.

It has taken me a long time to be able to write in this guest book. Shelly meant the world to me. I worked in the same room with Shelly at Northside and when she didn't need an IA anymore I moved on. Shelly loved her family and her job that wasn't really a job. Northside will have a void there. I will never forget the friendship we had. I love you Shelly. Until we meet again....

To say that Shelly meant the world to me would be putting it mildly. She became my world and I am blessed forever. She shared her dreams with me. She shared her sorrows. She shared her joy in her children. She counted God's blessings wisely. Her heart was full of love for so many things; her children, her sister and brother, her mother, her friends, her job. Shelly knew how to love freely. I will ever be thankful that she shared her love with me. When we met, I had an empty spot inside of me, but she filled it with the most wondrous joy and happiness. I'm also thankful that she shared her family with me, Matthew, Gabe, Leslie, Seth… Diane, Darren and the rest. I love you all, and I share your sorrow. May God join us all together again.

I am sitting here with great sadness tonight, as I just heard the news about Shelly. I am stunned. I am sad that I missed the opportunity to say goodbye as well. Shelly was a wonderful pre-school teacher to our son, Caiden. She showed such a "love" for him and was so sweet. I can remember the first time she came to our house for his pre-school interview....I knew what a remarkable teacher she would be then, she was more than a teacher, she loved our son & we loved her back. Our family will truly miss her and I am so grateful that my son Caiden had her as his first experience away from home...she made the difference. I hope she is resting in peace and our hearts go out to all of her family and friends. Love, The Baxter Family

Diane, Bart, Darrin and all the others whose life Shelly touched, my heart goes out to you all. I believe that the best of us get to go home before the rest of us and Shelly was absolutely one of the best of us. We did manage to catch up a few times in the past 30 or so years, it was always so uncomplicated and fun. I always walked away feeling good. I think Shelly made most people feel that way. Shelly, my friend, thank you for adding richness to my life. I love you- until we catch up again...

Gabe, Leslie, Seth, Diane and family,
I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to know and work with Shelly for six years. What I will remember most is that her children were the pride of her life...She would have done anything for you all. Her love for her sister was also evident daily. In the classroom, she made a difference daily, and taught with a passion. She will truly be missed. I will never forget her smile, her energy, her optimism(even when really ill), and her unending determination. Though her loss is so incredibly difficult for all of you, I hope you can find peace in knowing she is now out of pain. You will someday be with her again. Until then, she dwells in the house of the Lord where there is nothing but safety and beauty, and she is always watching you. Keep the memories alive. God bless you.

This dedication I write is one filled with both sadness and a smile, a contradiciton to say the least. I have known Shelly since junior high school. We were acquaintances in a class of over 300+ students. I now know that God had his reason for bringing me to Northside to teach-that was to reconnect with Shelly. At the same time, my husband Bart, was also working with Bart Hatch.
I have a smile on my face as I write this knowing that Shelly was loved by all her friends, students and families at Northside. She was greatly loved by all her family and friends. I also know she was loved by many members of my church. We have held her in our hearts and prayers; and continue to do so.
Shelly, I feel a sadness in my heart for your family, but know that God and his son, Lord Jesus, wait for you in heaven with a smile and a warm embrace for you. YOU ARE GREATLY MISSED!

I want to thank everyone for your kind words and thoughts. When I was speaking at the funeral I had a million memories but could barely get through the poem I was reading.
One of my favorites is the trip Shelly and I took to get a her new puppy. It should have been a short trip to Shipsawana taking about 2 hours. But the weather and our lack of direction skills resulted in a road trip adventure.
Each of us kids had received a small amount of money with our mom's passing and Shelly debated weather she should spend it on a puppy when there were many other things it could go to.
We laughed and talked about my mom the whole way and it didn't take us long to know that getting this puppy was what our mom would have wanted.
Due to the blizzard conditions my husband and friend Mindy were called in to assist. Mindy continued to maintain contact with the owner of the puppy assuring her that we were in fact on our way. My husband was at home tracking us on Map Quest to keep us headed in the right direction.
After an 8 hour journey we finally arrived at the puppy's home somewhere south of La Porte. We scooped up Shelly's new puppy and headed for home. Along the way we decided that Trixy would be her name. We felt that Trixy went well with Stella (our toy chiwuawa) and it reminded us of a couple of wild babes like Thelma and Louise. It really did fit the day and our emotions.
Fifty dollars in gas… $500 for the puppy.
The memory… priceless.
I love you and I will miss you.

Dear Diane and Shelly's family,
I knew Shelly was sick, but was shocked to hear she passed away. I'm so sorry, and my thoughts and prayers go out to you and all her family. I (and my husband Gary) went to school with Shelly and she was a really sweet person. The last time I saw her was at Northside when I was picking up my neice and nephew from school. I saw Shelly and hugged her and talked to her for a long time, all the while thinking it was Diane, she looked just like you!!! (This was several years ago and you both had the same haircut!) I was asking her about Bart and the family and if she knew I had mistaken her for you, she never said! Until I finally figured it out and felt so stupid! But of course she said "no big deal" and made me feel good. She was always such a kind hearted person, and I feel so sad for her family, but I know she is now free of pain, and a gardian angel to all she loves. I looked at the clock when I started writing this and realized she is being honored right now, I wish I was there to pay my respects and hug all of you. Please know my family will keep all of you in our prayers.
God Bless, Judi, Gary & Taylor Lunger
