Jean Lucile (Jay) Hansel
November 17, 1921 - May 1, 2009
Jean Lucile Hansel, 87, of Buchanan, passed away May 1, 2009 at Buchanan Meadows with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Dr. Guy and Margueret (Miller) Jay on November 17, 1921 in Waterloo, Iowa.
After graduating from Mallard High School, Jean attended Northwestern Bible Institute where she met and married Reverend Murlin Hansel. Together they ministered alongside each other in Fairbanks, Iowa, Edgewood, Iowa and Covert, Michigan until Murlin passed away on October 3, 1977.
When reading Proverbs 31, many times her name could have been easily interchanged within the verses. She was a helpmate to her husband in the ministry and Jean herself had a servant's heart for the churches and communities where they served.
Preceding Jean in death are her parents, her husband Murlin and brothers, Howard and Guy Edwin Jay, and her sisters, Mary Tiller (her twin), Margaret Tiller, Eleanor Bayles, and Shirley France.
Surviving her are her four sons; David (Diane) Hansel of Albion, Washington; Glenn (Reka) Hansel of Edwardsburg, Michigan; Dan (Teofila) Hansel of Indio, California and Gary Hansel of Kent, Washington; and also her two daughters; Linda (Dean) Lietz of Niles, Michigan and Donna Westerberg of Chandler, Arizona.
In accordance with Jean's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service to honor her life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Community Evangelical Free Church located at 120 East Bertrand; Niles at 11 a.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
