Obituary of Charles William Baker

Charles "Chuck" William Baker, 83, of Niles, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 22, 2013 with his family by his side. Chuck was born on April 5, 1930 to the late James and Marion (Johnson) Baker in Jackson, Michigan. He was one of six children growing up in the Baker household. After school Chuck went to work for Bendix and retired from there after almost 40 years of service. On October 28, 1950 Chuck wed the love of his life, Marylou Morehouse. The two were inseparable for nearly 63 years. Chuck loved race cars, he was a fan of NASCAR and Stock Car Racing. He even raced on the local tracks when he was younger. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Wilfred "Bill", James and Robert Baker and son-in-law Maurice VanLaecke. He is survived by his wife, Marylou, daughters Deborah VanLaecke of Niles, Michigan, Margaret (Dean) Wardlow of Niles, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great great grandson and siblings Donald Baker of Mishawaka, Indiana and Betty Stevens of South Bend, Indiana. A memorial service to honor Chuck's life will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Niles. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Chuck's name may do so to Hospice at Home, who gave Chuck such wonderful care.
