Obituary of Sally Ann Plouhar

Sally Ann Plouhar, 88, of East US 12 in Niles, passed away at her home on Monday, April 5, 2010 with her family by her side. Sally was born on August 9, 1921 to the late Pablo and Luisa (Bowman) Garcia in Las Animas, Colorado. After high school Sally went to beauty school and then on October 11, 1945 she wed Leonard Plouhar at a ceremony in Pueblo, Colorado. Together they had 2 children. After her and Leonard moved to Michigan they proudly owned and operated a 10,000 head chicken farm where she harvested eggs daily for 18 years; all of this while Sally worked full time at Silverbrook Manor for 16 years until her retirement. Sally was a real "firecracker" in her younger years, she taught herself how to drive, raised her children and kept up with an active social life. As Sally aged she became a more private person but was still feisty and loved Chinatown in Chicago. Sally was the most devoted wife that could ever be found and always took care of her needs last. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard Plouhar and siblings Salvadore Garcia, Alexander Garcia, Mary Garcia and Margaret Garcia. Sally is survived by her children Neil (Pam) Plouhar of South Bend, Indiana, Cheryl (Steve) Perkins of Niles, 5 grandchildren Jaime Santana, Jeremy Santana, Steven Perkins II, Christina Shellenbarger, Melissa Perkins, 12 great grandchildren and siblings Alexander Garcia, Tillie Valdez, Hasssie Garcia and Eleanor Trijillo all of Colorado. Funeral services to celebrate Sally's long life will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Karen Alkema of Hospice at Home officiating. Sally will be laid to rest next to her husband at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in the Garden of The Old Rugged Cross.
