Obituary of Hanby Pauline Lawson

Hanby Pauline (Hass) Lawson, 84, of Niles passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Mishawaka, Indiana. Hanby was born to the late Paul W. and Jessie Claudia (Reid) Hass on December 27, 1925 in Niles, Michigan. On May 11, 1946 she married David H. Lawson in a ceremony at Paul W. Hass Resort, Barron Lake. After graduating from high school Hanby went through three years of nursing school but stopped her education to return home to care for her father. After falling sick with polio in 1948 she was not able to perform acrobatic dancing any longer. Instead she became involved in many different activities. She not only had many ceramic creations but she was also a ceramic teacher to many of the neighborhood children in the 1970's. She also was a life member of the Niles Order of the Eastern Star Auxiliary Post #26 and also a member of the local Moose Lodge #413 for 35 years. God was important to Hanby in her daily living and she was raised in St. John's United Church of Christ and also considered herself a member at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Hanby had the opportunity to meet many interesting people. She was an avid wrestling fan and acquired many different autographs of professional wrestlers. She also had the privilege of being able to hear and meet in person, Mother Teresa at St. Mary's College, Norte Dame, Indiana. Preceding Hanby in death are her husband David H. Lawson, a brother Herman "Buddy" Hass, two sisters, Bertha Mae Rudisill and Delia Maria Raatz. Surviving Hanby are her son and friend Herman D. Lawson, a very special niece Paula Raatz, a special friend Darlene Kujawa and Hanby's namesake Rita Pauline Kujawa. Visitation will be Thursday, April 29th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the service on Friday April 30th at 10 a.m. the funeral home.
