Obituary of John Rankin

John Edward Rankin, 93, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away at Maple Lake Assisted Living in Paw Paw, on June 23, 2017. John was born on August 6, 1923, to the late John and Cora (Pake) Rankin in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After graduating from Paw Paw High School, John joined the United States Marine Corps where he served from 1941 to 1945. On May 19, 1950, John married Janice Gancer in a ceremony at the Almena Methodist Church. The two had three children. John later went into cash register sales and service, retiring from the National Cash Register Company after 36 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cora, and sisters, Helen Areaux and Barbara Gustafson. John is survived by his wife, Janice Rankin; children, Nicholas Rankin of Kalamazoo, Marcia (Michael) Torrey of Dexter, Michigan, and Douglas Rankin of St. Joseph; three grandchildren; and many extended family members. In keeping with John's wishes, he has been cremated and his family will be remembering him at a private memorial service.
