Obituary of Thomas Matzat

Thomas Henry Matzat, 76, of Niles, passed away at his home on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Tom was born on October 26, 1940, to the late Fredrick and Mildred (Tidmarsh) Matzat in Chicago, Illinois. After high school, Tom wed Dollie Ols at a ceremony in Knox at Round Lake Church. Together the two had three children. Tom was a deeply devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In his free time, he loved to golf, watch Notre Dame football, IU Basketball, and was also a Chicago White Sox fan. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Dollie Matzat. Tom is survived by his children, Thomas (Debra) Matzat of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dawn (Johnny) White of Knox, Indiana, and Kimberly (Tim) Phillips of Niles; grandchildren, Jessica White, John White, Tyler Phillips, Abigail Belcher, Alec Matzat, and Trenton Phillips; brother, Richard (Nila) Matzat of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and many extended family members and close friends. Tom's family will be holding a graveside service at Highland Cemetery in North Judson on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. eastern/11:00 a.m. central followed by a gathering at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church located at 1600 South Heaton Street in Knox.
