Obituary of Lavanna Wilken

Lavonna "Bonnie" Jewel (Scanlon) Wilken, 68, of Niles passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 16, 2010 with her family by her side. Bonnie was born on January 11, 1942 to the late Earl J. Sr. and Jewel (Brown) Scanlon in Mishawaka, Indiana. She was one of five children in the Scanlon household. On November 4, 1959 Bonnie wed the love of her life, Max Wilken, at a ceremony in Coldwater, Michigan. Bonnie was an amazing crafter. She spent time making ceramics, painting pictures and baking cakes. She was such a good cake decorator that she made cakes for family and friends weddings, baby showers and birthday parties. After Bonnie's health started to fail she became an avid game player online. As a member of the pogo.com online community she made several friends and had accumulated over a million tokens. She is preceded in death by her parents. Bonnie is survived by her husband Max, children Verna (Greg) Quick of Niles, Robert Wilken of Elkhart, grandchildren Ashley (Kent) Shade of Niles, Malorie Quick of Niles, Bob Wilken of Niles, 5 great grandchildren and siblings Earl (Pat) Scanlon, Jean Beard, Ruth (Steve) Smith and Kathy (Earnie) Davis, all of Niles. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 from 6-8 in the evening at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, where her funeral will also be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made in Bonnie's name to Lakeland Hospice.
