Obituary of Martin Henry Wagner

Martin Henry Wagner January 24, 1917 October 18, 2010 Martin H. Wagner, 93, of Buchanan, passed away at his home on Monday, October 18, 2010 of natural causes. He was born on January 24, 1917 in St. Joseph, Michigan to the late Fred and Anna (Trinke) Wagner. After high school Martin joined the Conservation Civil Corps (CCC) where he traveled throughout the State of Michigan, above the 36th parallel, planting pine trees. On May 29, 1943 Martin married Ethel June Nightlinger at a ceremony on her father's farm in Sodus, Michigan. Martin retired from Whirlpool Corporation after 32 years of dedicated service. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Buchanan. Martin enjoyed spending time outdoors including scouting, camping, feeding the birds and squirrels and picking fruits and vegetables. Martin and Ethel enjoyed traveling with the Good Sams Club for many years. The couple also spent a lot of time at Sandy Pines Campground in Allegan, Michigan where they were members for over thirty years. Martin loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He also loved the thrill of scratching lottery tickets. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ethel Wagner, a son John Wagner, a brother Ed Wagner and a sister Ida Kettlehut. Martin is survived by three sons; Jim (Bonnie) Wagner of Brunswick, Georgia, Jack (Sharon) Wagner of South Bend, Indiana and Jerry (Pat) Wagner of Buchanan, Michigan, ten grandchildren, eighteen grandchildren and a sister Daisy Curtis of Scottdale, Michigan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, 61543 M-51 in Niles with Pastor Rob McPherson officiating. An interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church 132 S. Oak Street, Buchanan, Michigan 49107.
