Julia Velez, 75, of Niles, formerly of Puerto Rico, passed away at the home of her daughter in Niles on Saturday, July 8, 2017. She was born on July 23, 1941 in Isabela, Puerto Rico to the late Filomeno and Geralda (Torres) Velez. On November 28, 1959 she wed Dionisio Velez at a ceremony in Niles, Michigan. A homemaker most of her life, Julia was gifted at crocheting and cooking. She had a love of cooking and was passionate about her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Wilma Velez, and two brothers, Amado and Pascual Velez. Julia is survived by her daughter, Martha Velez of Niles, a son, Dennis Velez of Florida, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, Sisters; Hilda (Irvin) Quinones, Naida (Efigenio) Ramos, Vidalina Velez (Felix Feliciano) and Miguelina (Randy) Mouw, brothers; Miguel (Maura) Velez, William (Lucy) Velez and Genaro (Lucila) Velez, as well as two sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Velez and Nilda Velez, a host of nieces, nephews and many hearts she has touched. In keeping with Julia's wishes her family will celebrate her life privately. Memorial contributions may be made in Julia's memory to the American Cancer Society.
