Obituary of Dunlap Sims

Dunlap "Dunny" A. Sims, 89, of Bell Road in Niles, passed away at West Woods of Niles on Saturday, August 6, 2011 with his longtime friends, Lu Ellen Brown and Judy Moses, by his side. Dunny was born on August 12, 1921 to the late Benjamin and Ellen (Hartgrove) Sims in Ballinger, Texas. After graduating from high school Dunny received his Bachelors in Education from Texas Christian University and went on to receive his Masters in Education from Columbia University. On June 27, 1954 Dunny wed Madge Rohn at a ceremony in Ludington, Michigan. Together they had one son, Zeke. Madge passed away in 2006. Dunny worked at WSBT TV and Radio for many years. He hosted the Triangle D Round-Up radio program where he was always known for signing off "This is Zeke Sims Daddy, Dunny". Dunny was always active in the community, he did announcing for the Brandywine Football games, worked for Channel 34, hosted his radio program and all the while looking after Zeke and Madge. After retiring from WSBT he continued to do football announcing. Dunny was a naturalist to the core, he loved his large property and all of the joys that it brought him and Zeke. Dunny is preceded in death by his parents and wife Madge. He is survived by his son Zeke Sims of Niles, longtime friend, surrogate daughter and confidant Lu Ellen of Niles and siblings Ben (Sue) Sims of Paint Rock, Texas, Bill (Sue) Sims of San Angelo, Texas and Cora "Kaye" (Fred) Campbell of Paint Rock, Texas. In keeping with Dunny's wishes a private family service will be held.
