Obituary of Jane Smith

Jane Smith, 76, of Niles, passed away at Lakeland Hospital in Niles on Saturday, October 15, 2011. She was born in Niles, Michigan to the late James and Blanche (Lipski) Dee on April 5, 1935. On September 10, 1954 Jane wed the love of her life, Charles Smith. Together they have two daughters. After graduating from high school Jane went on to graduate from Vogue Beauty College and opened up Jane's Beauty Shop in Niles. She owned and operated the beauty salon for 37 years until her retirement in 2008. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Catherine Sisk and Dorothy English. Jane is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles, children Denise (Greg) Ditsch and Diane Smith, both of South Bend, Indiana, two grandchildren Reagan Hessey of Niles and Shaunna (Kris Emmons) Dircks of Indianapolis, Indiana, two great grandchildren Alex and Alyssa Hively and sister Nellie Gentry of Niles. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 5-8p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, October 19th at Wesley United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Pastor Ed Slate will be officiating. An interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Jane's memory to Lakeland Hospice.
