Obituary of William Warren Sigfrids

William Warren Sigfrids, 84, of Niles, passed away at home on Sunday, December 24, 2017. Bill was born on June 20, 1933, to the late Andrew and Elna (Gustafson) Sigfrids in Superior, Wisconsin. After graduating from high school, Bill sailed and worked on the lake freighter iron ore boat's out of Superior until he went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On September 30, 1956, Bill married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Antisdel, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage together. Bill was skilled and a leader in several professions throughout his working career and never turned down a challenge to become the best he could be to help others. Bill eventually retired from the City of Dowagiac, as their Code Enforcer. When Bill wasn't working or spending time with his family he enjoyed volunteering in his church by serving on the council or participated in the choir. Bill was truly an honorable man with an infectious spirit that walked the path of genuine faith. He enjoyed doing woodwork, reading, fishing, and living vicariously through his grandchildren's lives. Bill was also a great musician and enjoyed playing several instrument's and was proficient at playing the ukulele. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and James Sigfrids; and sister, Nancy Cook. William is survived by his wife, Shirley Sigfrids; children, Scott Sigfrids of Dowagiac and Wendy (Jeff) Cole of Stevensville; grandchildren, Jessica Hargett, Seth Hargett, and Jason Merrill; and many extended family members and close friends. Services to celebrate William's life were privately held with Pastor Robert Duehlmeyer officiating.
