Obituary of Clarence Clayton Blevins

Clarence Clayton "Clay" Blevins, 68, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away at Battle Creek VA Medical Center on Saturday, February 18, 2012, following an extended illness. He was born on May 5, 1943 to the late Theodore and Floda (Duncan) Blevins in Oneida, Tennessee. After high school Clay enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam era. He worked as a tool and die machinist for GM until his retirement. Unable to sit still, Clay pursued other interests including being a limousine driver and a locksmith. Clay enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, playing softball and golfing. Clay had a very strong faith and was an active member of church when his health allowed. He was a worship leader, a former Sunday School Superintendant and a bible quizzing coach. Clay is survived by his three daughters; Christie Suhonen of Battle Creek, Stacy(Ed) Holland of Batavia, Ohio and Nikki Blevins of Battle Creek, grandchildren; Bradley Suhonen of Batle Creek, Ryan Jackson of Cincinnati, Dylan and Craighden Holland both of Cincinnati and siblings; Opaline (Jim) Jones of Douglasville, Georgia, Jean Allen of Johnson City, Tennessee, Ted (Joanne) Blevins of Indianapolis, Indiana, Cora Goff of Cincinnati, Ohio, Fay (Ed) Hensley of Cincinnati, Ohio, Sherry (Bill) Stein of McCormick, South Carolina, David Blevins of Alpharetta, Georgia and Dorinda Hale of Cypress, Tennessee. A celebration of Clay's life will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at New Hope Apostolic Church, located at 13146 W. Michigan Ave. in Marshall at 7:00 p.m. with a time of visitation two hours prior. Pastor Douglas Fleury will be officiating. Clay will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial donations in Clay's memory may do so to the Palliative Care Unit at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center located at 5500 Armstrong Road; Battle Creek, MI 49037.
