Obituary of Carlyle W. Stewart

Carlyle W. "Bill" Stewart, 95, of Niles, passed away at Riverridge Manor in Niles on Thursday, March 8, 2012.
He was born on September 29, 1916 to the late William and Ida (Streere) Stewart in Niles, Michigan.
Bill joined the U.S. Army and fought during WWII landing on the beaches of Normandy and obtained a Purple Heart along with other honors for his courageous service. He worked for many years as a foreman at Tyler Refrigeration, retiring in 1980. In his spare time Bill enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling and participated in several leagues. He enjoyed cars and loved ballroom dancing with his wife. He was a member of the Niles American Legion Post 26.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Stewart and a sister Opal VanVansler.
He is survived by his children William "Bill" (Paula) Stewart of Niles, two grandchildren Michael (Amy) Stewart of Granger and Dawn Nijak of Columbus, Ohio and six great-grandchildren.
