Obituary of Richard Alley

Richard Alley, 83, of Galien, passed away at home on Friday, March 24, 2023.

Richard was born on January 8, 1940 to the late Gus and Winifred (Boren) Alley in Hammond, Indiana.  While in high school, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country.  After returning home he went to work eventually landing at NIPSCO where he retired from in 1995 as a Lineman.  In 1989 he wed Alberta (Kawalski) at a ceremony in Plymouth, Indiana.  Richard was a wonderful man who was larger than life, stubborn but loving, and will be remembered as the family backbone.  He loved Harley Davidson and a good Saturday night fish fry at the American Legion in Galien. Richard was a very hard worker who could always make his vision a reality. When he was younger he enjoyed camping so much he bought a piece of property and turned it in to a campground with his family in Plymouth. The campground even inspired a family friend as a young child, Dr. Oakley, to want to spend time in nature and be with animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tom Reynolds; siblings, John, Floyd, Bill, David, Maurice, Charles, Delores “Jean”, Charlene, and Lola Ruth.

Richard is survived by his wife of 33 years, Alberta Alley; children, Dana (Jim) Gray of Griffith, Indiana, Kris (Al) Satkoski of LaPorte, Indiana, Roy (Betty Hastings) Reynolds of Knox, Indiana, Theresa “Tina” (Ron) LaGrand of Bristol, Indiana, Ronnie Reynolds of Elkhart and Donnie Reynolds of Elkhart; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Bob Alley of Tecumseh, Michigan and Arlene Alley of Tacoma, Washington; and many extended family members and close friends.

Funeral services to honor Richard will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation will be held one hour prior.  Pastor Jeff Hines will be officiating. Interment will follow at Galien Township Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Richard’s memory to the American Legion located at 402 North Main Street, Galien, MI 49113.
