Obituary of Kelly James Young

Please share a memory of Kelly to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kelly James "Jim" Young, Jr., was ushered from this earth into the presence of God on March 21, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born to the union of Kelly J. Sr., and Nellie I. (Anthony) Young on August 2, 1936 in Kimble, West Virginia. On November 27, 1954 he married Dollie M. Blankenship in Ragland, West Virginia and together they celebrated 57 wonderful years together. Jim was a hard-working man who always provided for his family. He was employed for over 35 years at Harvard Industries, retiring in 2001. A man of great integrity and character, Jim placed his trust in God in all chapters of his life. He was a faithful member of New Hope Apostolic Church in Marshall. Many who knew Jim appreciated the love, kindness, and generosity he always showed. He was known for his skill and patience as a fisherman; many believed he should have received a doctorate degree in fishing. Well before the sun had shown its face, Jim was already gliding through the waters in his boat fishing, in the woods with his rifle hunting, or out with tools and seeds planting the garden. He was always anxious to share his catch or his harvest. As a matter of fact, James and his fishing buddy gave away over 4,000 fish in just one year! His sense of humor and kind smile will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Other than a strong Christian heritage, Jim's family was his greatest treasure. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Thurl "Sonny" Young. He is survived by his wife, Dollie Young of Homer, his children; Rose and Kevin Chapman of Albion, Naomi and Dennis Sanders of Homer, and Roger and Chris (his favorite daughter-in-law) Young of Albion. Four sisters; Syble Hackworth , Scarlette Young, Lynn (Frank) Colon, all of Albion, Cathy (David) Elkins of Concord and one brother, Neil (Faye) Young, of Olive Branch, Mississippi. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. A visitation to celebrate James' life will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at New Hope Apostolic Church 13416 W. Michigan Ave; Marshall, with the service on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. An interment will follow at Whig Cemetery in Branch County. Those wishing to make a memorial donation may do so to either New Hope Apostolic Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
