Pauline Murray, 85, of Dowagiac, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at her home.

 

She was born in Chatfield, Arkansas on April 16, 1937, to the late Tom and Roberta (Dixon) Doyle.

 

Pauline was united in marriage on September 27, 1954, to Frank E. Murray in Dowagiac, Michigan. Their home was blessed with seven children.

She worked at Consolidated Industries in Dowagiac for many years, until retiring in 1994. She then went to work as a nurse’s assistant.

 

She was a true Christian and she devoted many hours to working for the church. At a young age, she started attending Second Baptist Church in Dowagiac and worked in several areas of the church. Pauline was a member of the choir for fifty-eight years, a member of the mission department for fifty-four years, director of the senior choir for fifty years, a member of the pastor’s aide for thirty years, a member of the nurse’s guild for twenty years, Sunday school teacher for twenty years, Sunday School Superintendent for five years and the President for the Mission for three years. Pauline was also a lifetime member of the NAACP. In her later years, she began attending Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Niles with her daughter.

 

Pauline loved studying and teaching the word of God. Every morning and before bed, she prayed and studied her Bible. She was passionate about having conversations with others and teaching them about the Lord. In addition, she had a passion for traveling. Her most memorable journey was to Jerusalem, where she was honored to have been baptized in the Jordan River.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, Frank Murray; an infant son, Joseph; sisters; Odessya Carter, Plesola Merriman, Ernestine Grays, Rosetta Arnold, Almetia Doyle, CoraMae Lancaster, brothers; Sidney Doyle, Thomas Doyle Jr., Roosevelt Doyle, Rayford Doyle, Johnny Willie Doyle; and stepbrothers Ronald Grady, Maurice Grady, Michael Grady & Leon Grady. 

 

Pauline leaves behind to treasure her memory, her children; Wyvonne (Carolyn) Murray of Georgia; Paulette Murray of Georgia; Charlotte (Emmett) McCord of Georgia; Juanita (Randy) Bacon of Dowagiac; Durrell (Stephanie) Murray of South Bend; Aaron Murray of Georgia; Darron (Carla) Murray of North Carolina; twenty-one grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Queen Owens of Dowagiac; Neomia Bell of Georgia; step-sisters Yvonne Walker & Patricia Grady; step-brothers Fred Grady & Larry Grady; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

 

A Homegoing service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 601 Ferry St. in Niles. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. Pauline will be laid to rest next to her husband at Mission Hills Memorial Cemetery.

 

Sunday dinner will never be the same without mom’s amazing cooking.
