Obituary of Richard Evick

Richard Evick, 89, of Niles, passed away at his home in Niles on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, with his family by his side.

Dick was born on May 15, 1933, to the late Carl and Lena (Doeher) Evick in Niles.  He graduated from Niles High School in 1951 and joined the United States Army. On Valentine’s Day of 1987, Dick wed the love of his life, Helen.  He worked for Kawneer in Niles for over 20 years.  After their closure, he went to work for Signal Point Golf Course and Plym Park Golf Course for many years.  During his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and golfing, even winning the city tournament one year. Dick wasn’t one to sit idle, he could always be found out in his garden, planting trees, or getting ready for the next big garage sale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lena Evick; and siblings, Melvin and Clayton Evick and Shirley Killarney.

Dick is survived by his wife of, 36 years, Helen Evick; children, Sandra (Gary) Blackburn of Byron Center and Larry (Millie) Martin of Niles; grandchildren, Holly Berry of Niles, Amy (Brett) Nielsen of Byron Center, Scott (Lisa) Martin of Niles, and Brooke (Chris) Hinkle of Niles; great-grandchildren, Madison, Dakota, Jordan, Carter, Nick, Hunter, Kylie, Will, Max, Drew, and Bobby; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.

Funeral services to honor Dick’s life will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens where Dick will be honored with full military honors.

Memorial donations may be made in Dick’s name to Elara Caring Network or Huntly Baptist Church.
