Obituary of Edward Roy Anderson

Edward R. Anderson, 72, of Niles, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Corewell Spectrum Lakeland Hospital in Niles, following a brief illness.

He was born on February 14, 1950 in Niles to the late Vernon and Marie (Konkey) Anderson.

Ed, commonly known to many as “Grandpa Ed”, graduated from Niles High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed tinkering and could fix about anything including radios, televisions and even re-wire houses. Grandpa Ed was known for building beautiful model ships, looked forward to fishing, an awesome bowler and sitting on the swings watching the birds and turkeys. Grandpa Ed spent over twenty years at Miles Laboratories and thoroughly enjoyed his work and the people he worked with. He will also be remembered for his life lived as Valerie, trying to find his place in this world.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Grandpa Ed leaves to cherish his memory his son, Eric (Tammy) Anderson of Niles; three grandchildren, Emalee, Lydia and Vivien Anderson of Niles; a great-granddaughter, Madelynne; his siblings, Tom (Sharon) Anderson of Arkansas, Ray Anderson of Mishawaka and Gerry Anderson (Marge Varga) of Niles along with several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. with a time of visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Niles.

Memorial contributions may be made in Grandpa Ed’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
