Obituary of Louis Burton Griffin

Louis B. Griffin, 85, of Niles passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Woodland Terrace surrounded by his family.

He was born in Hart, Michigan to Ralph and Marguerite (Winget) Griffin on January 2, 1938.

After finishing high school, Louis moved on to higher education where he eventually obtained his master’s degree in education.

On September 9, 1960 he wed the love of his life, Phyllis Knoll in Muskegon, Michigan.  This past September they were able to celebrate sixty-two years of marriage, truly a partnership forged in love.

Louis enjoyed golf, found great pleasure in fishing at his second home on the Pere Marquette River and reveled in getting into trouble at the library for being too rowdy.  Louis taught for over 30 years in the Niles school system.  Louis, years after retirement, would often run into a former student and enjoyed teasing them regarding their past exploits.  If you are reading this obituary there is also a good chance he taught you to drive.  He was a wonderful and faithful husband, a dedicated and encouraging father, and a doting and proud grandfather.

Preceding Louis are his parents, Ralph and Marguerite Griffin.

Louis is survived by his wife, Phyllis Griffin of Niles, children; Laura (Dave) Aiken of Byron Center, Michigan, Jill (Ian) Beaton of Portage, Michigan, and John (Jennifer) Griffin of Rosemount, Minnesota.  He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren; Nick, Mitchell, Nigel, Fiona, Joshua, and Jay.
