Obituary of John Charles Groszek

John Charles Groszek, 76, of Vandalia, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Elkhart General Hospital with his loving wife by his side.

John was born on July 15, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to the late John J. and Adelaid (Gorski) Groszek, on a hot summer day.

John enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country proudly, receiving his honorable discharge. At a ceremony in Chicago on June 26, 1971, John wedded Lois A. (Papen) Groszek. Upon his arrival, John attended the University of Illinois receiving his degree in technology, which would later open up the opportunity to work at his favorite college, Notre Dame, and would later retire after giving over twenty-five years of dedicated service in 2009.

The only way you would see John inside the house is if he was watching basketball or football game, enjoying a Guinness or scotch, as he was one of the biggest supporters of the Fighting Irish, the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Bulls. John often tried to spend most of his time outdoors, whether it be on the course, working on his golf swing, or heading out on their pontoon on Birch Lake to do some boating with his wife, while he caught the fish. John was a devoted husband, and will forever be missed dearly by his wife.

John is preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving John, is his wife of fifty-one years, Lois A. Groszek.

In keeping with John’s wishes, his family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate his life.
