Obituary of Clarence Eugene Whitmyer
Clarence E. Whitmyer, 98, of Dowagiac, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Cass County Medical Care Facility.
He was born in Edwardsburg, Michigan on April 9, 1924, to the late Melvin and Emma (Vickers) Whitmyer.
Clarence proudly served his country during World War II by enlisting into the United States Army-Air Force. After returning home, he married the former Catherine Richer on September 14, 1947, in Cassopolis Michigan.
Clarence and Catherine made their home in Dowagiac, where they raised their five children. He worked as a mechanic for the biggest part of his career, first in automobile repair, and later small engine repair.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Catherine; brothers, James Whitmyer, Paul Whitmyer, Walter Whitmyer, John Whitmyer; sisters, Millie Hunsberger, Rose Townsand, Dorothy McClain, Verla McKee, Francis Dorn, Emma Underwood, Evelyn White, Helen Hughs, and Bertha Anglemyer.
Clarence is survived by his children, Terry (Pam) Whitmyer of Dowagiac; Nancy Neff of Dowagiac; Deloris (Keith) Herman of Eau Claire; Phyllis (Michael) Schmuhl of Dowagiac; Linda Whitmyer of Dowagiac; eight grandchildren; Mark, Jason, Leslie, Joseph, Travis, Nathan, Heidi, Brian; nine great-grandchildren; Alexis, Quinn, Landen, Nate, Danielle, Gabrielle, Colt, Jackson, McKenzie, Kylie, and Dalton, several great-great-grandchildren, along with a brother, Willis Whitmyer of Florida.
A private family service will be held, and he will be laid to rest next to his wife at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
