Obituary of Josie Belle Asbury

Please share a memory of Josie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Josie Bell (Lowe) Asbury, 93, of Niles, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2022, in the comfort of her daughter’s home surrounded by her family.

George and America (Asberry) Lowe home was filled with joy on October 26, 1928 when little Josie Belle was born in Bluefield, Virginia.

Shortly after graduating from high school Josie became smitten with Victor Asbury, and a short time later they exchanged vows and became husband and wife on May 16, 1947.

A southern born woman, Josie possessed many southern traits.  She was always a hard worker, and her table always had room for one more person.  However, those that took at seat at the table should beware that often times there was an ingredient missing in the recipes she prepared. She had a heart for people and always wanted to make sure they were taken care of which often times meant Josie was their caretaker.  However, Josie was unlike any other southern belle you’ve ever met; Josie was often “found” racing in the streets and was known as “Hot Rod Granny”.  She loved to debate any subject, and those who debated against her would soon fold because, Josie was never wrong, at least in her mind.  She was strong-willed, and had a feisty spirit.  If the music was playing, Josie was dancing.

She was a member of the Eastern Star Olive Chapter #179 for over forty-eight years and took great pride in her accomplishments with the chapter.

Josie is preceded in death by her parents, George an America Lowe, her husband, Victor, her son, Kenneth Asbury, and her siblings; Jessie McGuire, Ruby Ball, Margaret Mooney, and Bud Lowe.  She is also preceded by her sons-in-law; Johnny Arnold and Keith Frentzel, and her brother-in-law, Micky McCoy.

Surviving Josie are her children; Barbara Arnold, Wayne (Betty) Asbury, Victoria (Steve) Peacock, and Renee` Frentzel. She is also survived by her seventeen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and fifteen great-great grandchildren.

In keeping with Josie’s wishes there will be no public services and Josie’s family will be remembering her privately.

Those wishing to make a memorial donation to the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #179, Oaklawn, Illinois.
